THE  HISTORY  OF  
​GEORGIAN  BAY  MOTORS

Georgian Bay Motors was opened in February of 1967 by Fred Kuznicki as a Volkswagen Dealership, at our original downtown location 945 3rd Ave. E. Owen Sound, ON. (across from The Professional Centre).  In 1971 Georgian Bay Motors saw the addition of Audi & Porsche to their Volkswagen Dealership. In February of 1973, the dealership moved to it's new location on the Sunset Strip, earning it's place as the first automobile dealership to re-locate on the West side of Owen Sound, it was located where we now see Fox Chrysler.  With the demise of the very popular 914 Porsche model, at the end of 1976 the Porsche brand was dropped, in favour of Mercedes-Benz.  With the advent of the newer generation Audi 5000 series in 1978, Mercedes-Benz was dropped also.  The Volkswagen/Audi pairing continued on until mid 1993, when the dealership was sold to a new group of owners.  In a classic example of biting off more than they could chew, the new owner group found themselves in various business & legal difficulties, hence losing their rights to the dealerships in early 1995.  Shortly there after, the current owner, Mike Kuznicki was contacted by Volkswagen Canada to re-establish the dealership to it's former glory, however at that time, a dealership was not on the radar for Georgian Bay Motors.  When it became evident that no one would be able to step up & acquire the dealership in short order, we opened up our Springmount service & repair location in December of 1995.  We were first located at 121 Jason St., Owen Sound, ON (Springmount Business Park). In June of 2014 we relocated to our current location of 118 Shane St., Owen Sound, ON (Springmount Business Park).  In August of 2021 we started construction on an expansion to our existing building. In February 2022 we were able to open the new side with an additional three bays (bringing the total to seven) and an expanded customer waiting area. We have been proudly servicing Owen Sound & area as an independent repair shop for over 27 years.  We strive on pride & satisfaction when fixing your vehicle, that's the way it's always been & that's the way it will stay.
